MSC IV Infusion vs. Targeted Injection: How the Two Differ

August 18, 2026 · 6 min read

Patients almost always arrive with the same question: should I do the IV or the injection? It is a reasonable question, and the honest answer is that it is not yours alone to answer. It is determined during a clinical evaluation. What you can do beforehand is understand what each route involves.

Intravenous infusion

MSC stem cells delivered intravenously under medical supervision enter general circulation through a standard IV line placed in the arm. The appointment resembles any other infusion visit: you sit, the line is placed, the infusion runs, and a licensed provider monitors you throughout. Most patients are in and out inside an hour or two and drive themselves home.

Targeted injection

MSC stem cells administered via targeted injection are placed at a specific site rather than into general circulation. Your licensed clinical provider determines the appropriate injection site based on your individual assessment. The visit is shorter than an infusion, and the area is prepared and treated under sterile technique.

How providers approach the decision

  • Your full health history, current medications, and prior procedures
  • Whether your goals are localized to one area or more general
  • Findings from your in-person clinical evaluation
  • Whether MSC therapy is appropriate for you at all — sometimes the answer is no

MSC therapy is not FDA-approved for the treatment, cure, mitigation, or prevention of any disease. Individual results vary and no outcome is promised or implied.

What each option costs

Pricing at Stem Cell RX is published rather than quoted case by case. A single vial is $1,999. When a plan includes both an injection and an IV, the combined price is $3,999 rather than the sum of the parts. An exosome IV can be added for $1,000 when your provider determines it is appropriate. Financing is available through Cherry and CareCredit for patients who prefer to spread payments over time.

Most clinics charge $8,000 to $15,000 or more for similar services, and many will not put a number in writing before a deposit. We do the opposite: you see the exact figure, itemized, before you commit to anything.

Why patients choose National City over crossing a border

Clinics across the border advertise low prices for similar-sounding products. What travel adds is a supply chain you cannot inspect, a provider not licensed in California, and follow-up care in another country. Our clinic is in National City, our lab sourcing is U.S.-based and FDA-registered, and if you have a question after your visit you call this office and reach a person who works here.

Every patient must complete a clinical evaluation with a licensed healthcare professional to determine whether MSC therapy is appropriate. Treatment is not recommended for all individuals.
